Jack’s Wife Freda

This is a classic New York brunch spot. The atmosphere is always warm and inviting. Whether you go alone or with a group of people, being at Jack’s Wife Freda feels like being a part of something. Some popular options include the famous rosewater waffles and green shakshuka. We’re big fans of their drinks too like the watermelon juice, cantaloupe juice, and Nana’s tea. Did we mention this is a prime place for people watching? You’ll be anything but bored here.

Bubby’s

Opened in 1990, this Tribeca restaurant is a staple! With a perfect mix of tourists and locals, there’s always a buzz at Bubby’s. The menu is a mix of Southern food and American classics. The pancakes are out of this world – with a choice between James Beard (light and fluffy flapjacks) and 1890 sourdough (thick & chewy). They serve an amazing pastrami Rueben, eggs benedict, and biscuits as well.

A place that serves…eggs. On sandwiches with avocado or sausage or peppered bacon. On ricotta toast. In burritos. On salads. If you’re an egg lover, this is the place to go. It’s amazing how versatile eggs can be and how perfectly the folks at Egg Shop prepare and combine them with other flavors. It’s a tasty and memorable brunch spot for sure. And they have vegan substitutes too!

Bandits

This West Village restaurant is new to the brunch scene, but Bandits has quickly proven itself a top contender on the list. It’s modern but retro at the same time. At first glance, the menu seems to be a typical breakfast menu, but everything has an exciting twist. Shishito peppers with everything bagel cream cheese, tofu scramble sammie, french toast with bruleed banana…who knew that was a thing?!). Personally, we love the iconic bacon egg and cheese. It’s what breakfast dreams are made of.

This might be one of the most popular brunch spots in New York City and is renowned for its life-changing pancakes. Pancake options at Clinton Street Baking Company include wild Maine blueberry, banana walnut, and chocolate chunk. You might want to round up some friends and try all three because the wait can get up to two hours during weekend mornings, although it’s certainly worth the wait.

Upland

This bright and spacious restaurant near Flat Iron is a relaxing way to start your weekend. The vibe is laid back, and it feels warm and inviting. Their menu covers the full brunch scale from eggs and pancakes to pizzas, pastas, and salads. Rumor has it that the Upland cheeseburger is Barack Obama’s favorite burger in the city!

Jacob’s Pickles in the Upper West Side is Southern comfort food at its’ best. They do fried chicken and biscuits well and of course, pickles too. There are different pickles and pickled vegetables you can order on their own, but they also show up in a lot of dishes on the menu. They have a great lineup of beers as well. This is a great place to come with a big group of friends and eat your way through the menu.

This Australian cafe is a delightful spot for brunch. The staff at Two Hands is always warm and friendly, and the laid-back vibe is perfect for a Sunday morning. Bonus points: all of their meat comes from a local farm run by the owners in upstate New York. There are four locations throughout the city. Everything on their menu is superb, but we love the brekky panna cotta, acai bowl, avocado toast, chicken burger, and of course, their famous banana bread topped with mascarpone and honey.

La Bonbonniere

La Bonbonniere is a textbook diner and that somehow makes it all the more special. Vintage photos on the walls, folding chairs at the outdoor tables, a menu that has barely changed since it opened in 1930. Coming here feels like a hug. It’s not fancy but you can expect eggs, pancakes, french toast, burgers, and milkshakes that just feels so right on a weekend morning.

Buvette

Buvette is definitely the cool kid on the block. Tucked in a quiet West Village Street, this French restaurant has perfected its menu, making it worth the inevitable wait. For brunch, you have to try their famous steamed egg toast with goat cheese or salmon or prosciutto. For a sweet option, try the pain perdu (French toast). Don’t forget the fresh squeezed orange juice.

That wraps up our list of 10 best brunch spots in New York City. Have you tried any? What are your favorite brunch spots in the city?
